Painting from the Heart - Art in Assisted Living - 2

Victor

He was a stern an quiet man, who was at first reluctant to participate and paint. We started talking and journaling and sketching things in personal notebooks: a tree, a person, a house. This painting grew out of one of these drawings. Victor painted the red barn from the farm where he grew up." I won't tell you the things that went on behind that barn..." was his comment to this painting.

Painting from the Heart - Art in Assisted Living - 1

Pearl and Frances

Pearl was happy when she was painting. She did not seem to mind anything that flowed out of her fingers and was always ready to chose a new color for her linear brush work. She and Frances were creating patterns and following along a line in narrow stripes or dots. They liked their paintings. Their style is reminiscent of pattern painting and aboriginal art.

Painting from the Heart
Art In Assisted Living

Opening Tuesday December 7th 2010
6-9:30PM

Cafe International, 508 Haight Street
San Francisco, CA 94117

These 10 paintings were created by seniors in an assisted living community in San Francisco. All of them suffered from memory impairment due to Alzheimer's disease. Some of them were familiar with painting, but for most of them painting was a new form of expression.Using professional art supplies, talking about abstract art, the power of color, and allowing the freedom to explore from within, they brought out their inner artist.
